A study in how not to do it, probably.

So here I am, 3am, the wind is howling outside, its blowing rain against the window, I'm tired but not sleepy.

Tonight I went for the sick puppy award, seeing if I could get Darwin installed on the 3Com Internet Server I was given from work to play with. I couldn't. It borked at the same place as it did with the other pc I tried it on. So either the whole lot is a crock to begin with, or the cd that I burned was buggered. I'll download it again at work at some point, then try again.

Ended up I just installed the IS box as a smoothwall, ready to go into one of my final two schools to go online. If/when Orange install the bloody wireless plates on their mast behind the school. They said it would be done inside two weeks, and that was way before Christmas.

And that was pretty much my day. I did boring stuff at work, apart from getting into an argument with one of the techs, who was just getting things completely confused, so I gave up and walked out. Childish I know, but for some reason I just couldn't be arsed arguing. I toyed with the idea of going straight home, but went back to the office instead. Just my luck the guy's wife was there...

Didn't watch any movies tonight, just listened to random music, and did geeky things with the computer.

And now I have work in 6 hours, allegedly...

So I get home. It's dark, so I figure the neighbours are out. Then I notice a flickering light, so I figure they have the fire lit (*jealous*). Then I notice that there are candles dotted around the place, and the security light hasn't come on as I walked under it. The neighbour opens the window and says that both the power and the phones are out. Figures. He asks if I'm okay for light and stuff, I say I've got a torch, and some candles, hastily adding not that I use the candles of course (it is specified in the terms of my lease agreement no pets, no candles and no smoking).

Just wonderful really, it's dark, raining, windy, cold, and I've no heat or light in the flat. Just as well that giant is cooking steak tonight.

Power had been off since three, cos thats when the timer on the heater stopped. I had one UPS left running, and that was only cos none of the devices attached to it were turned on. The others had all shut down long ago, although the laptop was still running under battery power.

Bah. Hope its back on for when I get home, otherwise I won't be able to wake up in the morning ;)
