Blizzard are shite

Their patch downloader is really shite

Not only does it assrape your connection of you don't watch it, it has currently downloaded 505Mb of 'something' to get a 276Mb patch file

WTF?!?!

Unsure whether to use my wtf, or my gaming icon...

To blizz

Get your act together you gnomeshaggers, and while you're at it, stop the wazzocks from sending 'buy wow gold now' whispers.

yeah, and it isn't the first time they've pulled this type of stunt either. I have on a number of occasions been very close to cancelling the subscription and just not bothering playing it

Yeah, it must be a bit of a pita. I hope they improve.

They're like the microsoft of gaming; all very popular, and do a lot of what most people want, but even after a few generations of product they still need loads of downtime, make downloads more complicated than it needs to be (while at the same time making it hog all your bandwidth - just the thing to not cooperate with your continued playing while it happens), not really cottoned on to online distribution and payments.

I had a chat with a GM about reporting gold sellers, and was stunned to find that they really need people to tell them - how tricky can it be to spot someone /w'ing or mailing lots of users with similar content, either one character/realm or across a whole account (if the farmers are that clever yet).

Smells like dorf technology to me.

I think the gold selling is a balancing act for blizz, it's to their advnatage to have some but not lots. I always thought that the messages about reporting it were a hangover from when it wasn't common, I never bother reporting it, if they can't see from the format of the messages sent that it's spam, then they're never going to get on top of it. I can't believe keyword and bayesian analysis of the text traffic would eat much of their overall cpu budget, plus they earn as much for terminating an account after 10 messages as they do after 1000, but earn more when they need to burn through more accounts for the same number of messages.

might be worth looking at the mirror sites, see if they have it downloadable via http, rather than the blizz 'lets rape your connection' downloader. I know that filefront now has v2.1.0 black temple patch available for http download, which it didn't last night. I didn't see a UK version though
